FAQ

Frequently asked questions

For First Timers

I'm completely new to Pilates. Can I still join?

Absolutely. You don't need prior experience or a certain fitness level to begin. Our classes are designed to support different experience levels, and our instructors are here to guide you every step of the way.

Which class should I start with?

If you're new to Pilates, we recommend starting with Shift Start or Mat Starting Point, our beginner-friendly classes focused on movement foundations and confidence-building.

Not sure where to begin? Reach out and we'd be happy to help you find the right fit.

Do I need to be flexible or fit before starting Pilates?

Not at all. Pilates meets you where you are. Strength, flexibility, mobility, and body awareness naturally develop through consistent practice.

What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Grip socks are recommended for reformer classes for comfort and safety.

What if I feel nervous about starting?

Starting something new can feel unfamiliar and that's okay. You don't need experience or a certain level of fitness to begin. Just come as you are, and we'll guide you from there.

About Our Classes

Can I join classes while pregnant?

Yes. Pilates can be practiced during pregnancy, though we recommend reaching out before booking. Because pregnancy brings unique movement needs, Shift recommends sessions guided by our prenatal-certified instructors to ensure you feel supported and cared for throughout your practice.

Will I be okay if I've never used a Reformer before?

Yes. Many people are trying reformer Pilates for the first time. Beginner-friendly classes are designed to introduce equipment and movement in a supportive and approachable way.

Is Pilates only for women?

Not at all. Pilates was originally developed as a movement system focused on strength, control, and rehabilitation with early methods even used to support injured soldiers. Today, people of different ages, movement backgrounds, and fitness levels practice Pilates for strength, mobility, posture, recovery, and overall well-being.

Can Pilates help with posture or previous injuries?

Pilates can support posture, movement quality, and overall body awareness. If you have injuries, pain concerns, or specific movement considerations, we encourage reaching out before class so our team can guide you appropriately.

What makes Shift different?

Shift is home to Cebu's first team composed of licensed Physical Therapists and STOTT Pilates® trained instructors, bringing together movement expertise, intentional care, and globally recognized Pilates education in one progressive movement space.

Education & Training

Do you offer Pilates instructor training?

Yes. As a Merrithew® Host Training Center, Shift offers internationally recognized Pilates instructor education for those looking to deepen their practice or pursue teaching professionally.

Do I need teaching experience before joining instructor training?

Not necessarily. Training programs may vary depending on course requirements, and our team can help guide you toward the right path based on your background and goals.

Can I train even if I'm not planning to become an instructor?

Absolutely. Pilates education can also be valuable for movement enthusiasts, fitness professionals, and individuals looking to deepen their understanding of movement.

General Information

Is parking available?

Yes. Parking is available on-site, though space availability may vary depending on the day and time of your visit.

How do I get to Shift?

You can find our studio location through our website, maps, and social media platforms. If you need help locating us, our team would be happy to assist.

How early should I arrive before class?

We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes before your session, especially for your first visit, to allow time to settle in and get familiar with the studio.
